We'd pay for the super turf field and the MYF kids would never get to play on it due to the powers that be.

Marshfield rushes past N. Quincy
By Ricky Popolizio, Globe Correspondent | October 28, 2007

Teams with the ability to wear down opponents and remain fresh can reap the benefits come November. No. 8 Marshfield (8-0, 7-0 Atlantic Coast) sustained a steady attack with four backs rushing for touchdowns in its 26-7 win over North Quincy at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

"The backs all did a great job today," said coach Lou Silva. "Brad Poirier is our outside threat but they loaded up and did a good job of containing him. We just try to use a lot of kids. They are all similar. We don't really have a featured back. It's running back by committee."

Leading, 14-7, late in the third quarter, the Rams took advantage of great field position after pinning the Red Raiders on their 1. From the North Quincy 21, Marshfield needed just four rushing plays before Poirier (65 yards on 11 carries) found the end zone from 5 yards out.

"We settled down on defense and began to pick up the speed of their backs [in the second half]," said Silva.

North Quincy (4-4, 3-3) gave the ball right back on a turnover and a different back, Denis McCarthy (92 yards on 11 carries), went to work for Marshfield. The senior received three of six snaps on the drive, rushing for 41 yards, including his 25-yard touchdown that put the game out of reach with 6:56 to play.

McCarthy was forced into a greater role after Luke Poirier (25 yards and a TD on 8 carries) left in the first half with a nagging leg injury. In the first half, Marshfield won the toss and Luke Poirier took the opening kick 55 yards. The Rams, working from the North Quincy 35, used their ground attack to take the lead, sophomore Bob MacNeil scoring from a yard out at 6:03.

North Quincy was able to respond. On second down from its 37, senior Jon Cahill broke a 26-yard run into Marshfield territory. Three plays later, facing a third and 9 from the 38, Dennis Martin lofted a pass toward the end zone into one-on-one coverage. Sophomore Paul Reamer ripped the ball away from Brendon Fleming and held on after a nifty juggling act.
The Rams continued to pound the ball on their next drive, rushing 13 times on 16 plays. Luke Poirier ran six times for 38 yards and scored from a yard.

Tough Loss yesterday.........
They still have a big game this Friday night against a 9-0 Dennis-Yarmouth team.
With a win and a Plymouth South win over Plymouth North on Turkeyday, a playoff berth would still be obtainable.

From the report I read on the game, it came down to some stupid penalties. You sure called that one from early in the season! I hope they beat D-Y and get some help...

Wow, what a great game. The Rams ate up the whole 3rd quarter with a long TD drive. Game is almost over, 21-7 Rams.

Dennis-Yarmouth set the tone when they ran their team onto the field while Marshfield was still announcing the senior players and cheerleaders. That really fired up the seniors and the rest of the team. The defense held a very fast team in check and the offense really took control of the line of scrimmage. Great game, great fans, great time........

Lets Go Plymouth South.................

Rumor has it that the outcome was good...

I noticed on the way into town this evening that there were footballs with the players name and numbers on the telephone polls starting at Perfection Fence heading towards the highway. I am very happy to see this support. I think that all kids in town should be acknowledged for all and any accomplishments.

The mindset of a local football player.......

At seven oclock on Friday evenings during the fall, I am as happy as can be. Friday night is football night, and to be blunt, football is my passion. I cannot possibly articulate how I feel in the moments leading up to a game. I could tell you I am excited, or even ecstatic, but I assure you those would be brash understatements. I am in perfect harmony when I strap on my shoulder pads and buckle up my helmet. There is no better feeling! In the past eleven years, football has taught me more than I could possibly explain. The values of determination, perseverance and a strong work ethic, values I consider crucial in my life, I have learned from football. Football has made me truly confident in myself and my abilities. I have learned that nothing will be given to me; rather, success must be earned. Regardless how many times I am knocked down, the will to get up and keep fighting is essential in both football and life. Through football, I have learned the value of teamwork, and have served as a role model for youth football players. Football has instilled me with sound values I know will positively affect my life time and again. Soon my playing days will be over and that almost brings me to tears. However, I know at Penn State, where the football tradition is renowned, I will be able to hold on to my passion. Attending Penn State University will allow me to keep learning from a game I love, a game that has given me more than I could ever give back.
