Before his previous start, Gamms reported that the Sox are trying to decide if they should shut him down for Tommy John surgery. Then he went out and pitched 8 strong innings. Now another stinker. I tend to believe Gammons, who has great sources. Will Lackey be the 3rd Sox pitcher to go down with TJ surgery this season? Good thing they signed Miller!

Cameron's gone.

Red Sox trade OF Mike Cameron to Marlins

BOSTON (AP)The Boston Red Sox have traded outfielder Mike Cameron(notes) to the Florida Marlins, less than a week after cutting the three-time Gold Glove winner.

The Red Sox sent the 38-year-old Cameron and cash to the Marlins for either a player to be named or cash. The deal was announced before Boston hosted Toronto on Tuesday night.

Cameron hit just .149 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 33 games for Boston this season. The Red Sox designated him for assignment last Thursday.

Cameron has about $3.5 million left on a two-year, $15.5 million contract he signed as a free agent before last season. He is a .249 career hitter with 272 home runs, 950 RBIs and 296 stolen bases. The Marlins will be his eighth team.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona reported this afternoon that Kyle Weiland would be called up from Triple A Pawtucket to pitch in Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Weiland, 24, of Albuquerque, N.M., will draw his first career Major League start for the Sox after he was selected in the third round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Notre Dame, where he ranked as the Irish's all-time save leader with 25.

Got in at 5am and David Ortiz had four hits, three RBI and his 22d home run of the season as the Red Sox came from behind to beat the Twins in Minnesota, 8-6.

Up a game and a half now.

Game 2 Final: Red Sox 4, A's 0
Posted by Michael Vega, Globe Staff August 27, 2011 07:28 PM
Final: Red Sox 4, A's 0

Avenging a 15-5 loss Friday night, the Red Sox completed a rain-delayed doubleheader sweep of the Oakland A's with a 4-0 win, which came on the heels of a 9-3 romp in the first game.

Erik Bedard pitched well enough to earn his first victory with the Red Sox after he threw four scoreless frames of two-hit ball at the A's. But Bedard was denied the win when he departed the game after rain caused a one-hour delay in the fifth inning.

Alfredo Aceves (9-1) got the win after he took the mound for the Sox when the game resumed and threw three perfect innings, allowing just one walk while striking out three before handing it to Daniel Bard in the eighth, who turned it over the Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth.

David Oritz paced a nine-hit attack going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI on a 2-run homer (his 27th of the season) off A's starter Graham Godfrey in the second inning.

Anybody paying attention to this EPIC collapse? It's painful to watch any of the games now. Too bad, but injuries have completely robbed them of a chance at another World Series run.

At this point I think the Sox will be better off not making the playoffs because they have no chance of beating anybody even in a short series. Just like 2005.

If they make it (I seriously doubt they will), the rotation will be:

John Lester, Pray For, Rain

Pre-season they were called "possibly the best Red Sox team in history".

I'm not sure if they are the biggest chokers in history, or if this debacle is all on injuries?

If these bums actually back their way into the wild card berth, they had better not publicly celebrate as this stretch of baseball has been about as disgusting as it can get.

I have a feeling Theo might be next.I didn't see the owners saying to much when asked about Theo.

As far as Francona,he had to go.He lost control of the team.He himself said this and it frustrated him. They had just stopped listening to him, even guys that he had reached before tuned him out. This has always been the knock on Francona, that he is a "players coach".Now it has come back to bite him.

The Boston Herald broke a story on how the pitchers would sit on the clubhouse couch and drink beer on their off days. They also said there were 3 pitchers that were totally out of condition and were actually gaining weight as the season went on.Beckett is a good example with his his gut.Mind you they have one of the best strength and conditioning coaches around.

This is why we don't need another "players manager" but someone who isn't going to take any crap!

"And now we get the truth we feared all along; the inmates were running the asylum. Francona treated them like men and they responded by walking all over him. He bit his lip and took bullets for his guys and this is how they rewarded him. The players manager wound up getting treated like the players doormat.

Thank God! His moronic free agent signings have cost the team over 500 million. Yes, half a trillion flushed down a toilet. Good riddance, and I actually feel sorry for the Cubs. I hope they have millions to waste.

The way I see it, they now have only a couple of days to sign Madsen from the Phillies.

Cheringtons #1 priority should have been signing Paps, he is not off to a good start.

If they don't get a good closer they are done. Bard should be converted to starter.

Ya,they got to get somebody.I can't understand why they let him go.They didn't even bother with making him an offer it sounded like?

The other guy they seem to want to keep is Big Papi from what they said last night. They are in talks they said that sounded like a deal was coming soon.

Keeping Papi will be good but it was way more important to sign Paps.

The way I see it Cherington has a matter of days before he is on the hot seat. I'll start calling for his firing in less than a week. What a loser, you let you best player walk away like this.

Jon Lester, has already set an example by showing up early and is working with other pitchers, such as Andrew Miller, Aaron Cook, Junichi Tazawa, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and minor leaguers.

Red Sox blow 9-run lead, lose to Yankees, 15-9
Apr 21, 2012

The Boston Red Sox on Saturday turned in one of their worst performances in years, losing to the New York Yankees at Fenway Park, 15-9. Boston blew a 9-0 lead, with the bullpen surrendering 14 runs in the seventh and eighth innings. A parade of hapless relievers wasted a strong start by Felix Doubrount, who held the Yankees to one run in six innings. It was Boston's fifth straight loss and dropped the team deeper into the American League East cellar at 4-10.
