We don’t have it under control,” Mr. Michael Steinback, Assistant Director for the FBI told the House Homeland Security Committee in June. “Absolutely, we’re doing the best we can. If I were to say that we had it under control, then I would say I know of every single individual traveling. I don’t. And I don’t know every person there and I don’t know everyone coming back. So it’s not even close to being under control.”

Ok, these are two separate topics, Trump and Moulton. How did you get this arrogant?

What did I post about Trump was a lie?

Then again, you could dodge the question again.

Another bigot?

First, no one called anyone a bigot.

Second: There have been over 780,000 Muslim refugees allowed in this country since 9/11. of those 780,000, 3 have been arrested for terrorist related activities.

Third, Last year, there were 24,000 Syrian applications for refugee status in the United States. of that number just over 10,000 got to the vetting process and of those 10,000, 2,400 were allowed in. So 10% of those who applied got through the screening process. The process also takes an average of 12 to 18 months.

Does that include the Boston marathon bombers?

Airline and security officials at Kennedy Airport let 150 passengers arriving from an international flight leave the airport without going through customs
When the plane landed, passengers walked out of the airport without having their passports or bags checked by Customs and Border Protection,
The security snafu came just two days after ISIS released a video threatening New York City with a terrorist attack.

I wonder who else it didn't include.

No, they came in the 1990s and they were small children.

The 3/4 of a million number is a bit light ...
Thus, twelve years after the September 11th hijackers were invited into the country on temporary visas, the U.S. decided to admit 280,276 migrants from Muslim countries within a single fiscal year.

To put these numbers into perspective, this means that every year the U.S. admits a number of Muslim migrants larger in size than the entire population of Des Moines, Iowa; Lincoln, Nebraska; or Dayton, Ohio.

The rate of Muslim immigration has been increasing since September 11. Between 2001 and 2013, the United States permanently resettled 1.5 million Muslim immigrants throughout the United States. Unlike illegal immigrants, legal immigrants granted lifetime resettlement privileges will be given automatic work permits, welfare access, and the ability to become voting citizens.
And the 3 have been arrested number is also very light ...
Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, has identified at least 26 instances in which foreign-born individuals inside the U.S. were charged with or convicted of terrorism in the last year or so.

Here's a sampling of incidents from that list:

- An immigrant brought here by his family from Kuwait at a young age, and who was later approved for U.S. citizenship, carried out the Islamist attack that recently killed 4 military personnel in Chattanooga. (July 2015)

- An Uzbek refugee living in Idaho was arrested and charged with providing support to a terrorist organization, in the form of teaching terror recruits how to build bombs. (July 2015)

- An immigrant from Ghana, who applied for and received U.S. citizenship, pledged allegiance to ISIS and plotted a terrorist attack on U.S. soil. (June 2015)

- An immigrant from Sudan, who applied for and received U.S. citizenship, tried to join ISIS and wage jihad on its behalf after having been recruited online. (June 2015)

- An Iraqi immigrant, who later applied for and received U.S. citizenship, was arrested for lying to federal agents about pledging allegiance to ISIS and his travels to Syria. (May 2015)

- An immigrant from Syria, who later applied for and received U.S. citizenship, was accused by federal prosecutors of planning to “go to a military base in Texas and kill three or four American soldiers execution style.” (April 2015)

- An immigrant from Yemen, who applied for and received U.S. citizenship, along with six other men, was charged with conspiracy to travel to Syria and provide material support to ISIS. (April 2015)

- An immigrant from Saudi Arabia, who applied for and received U.S. citizenship, swore allegiance to ISIS and pledged to explode a propane tank bomb on U.S. soil. (April 2015)

- A Uzbek man in Brooklyn encouraged other Uzbeki nationals to wage jihad on behalf of ISIS, and raised $1,600 for the terror organization. (April 2015)

- A Kazakhstani immigrant with lawful permanent resident status conspired to purchase a machine gun to shoot FBI and other law enforcement agents if they prevented him from traveling to Syria to join ISIS. (February 2015)

- A Bosnian refugee, along with his wife and five relatives, donated money and supplies, and smuggled arms, to terrorist organizations in Syria and Iraq. (February 2015)

- Six members of Minnesota’s Somali-American refugee community have recently been charged with trying to join ISIS. The Washington Times reported that “the effort [to resettle large groups of Somali refugees in Minnesota] is having the unintended consequence of creating an enclave of immigrants with high unemployment that is both stressing the state’s safety net and creating a rich pool of potential recruiting targets for Islamist terror groups.” (February 2015)

- A college student who immigrated from Somalia who later applied for and received U.S. citizenship, attempted to blow up a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Oregon. (October 2014)

- An immigrant from Afghanistan, who later applied for and received U.S. citizenship, and a legal permanent resident from the Philippines, were convicted for “join Al Qaeda and the Taliban in order to kill Americans.” (September 2014)

- An immigrant from Yemen, who later applied for and received U.S. citizenship, was arrested for trying to join ISIS. He was also charged with attempting to illegally buy firearms to try to shoot American military personnel. (September 2014)

- A Somali immigrant with lawful permanent resident status, along with four other Somali nationals, is charged with leading an al-Shabaab fundraising conspiracy in the United States, with monthly payments directed to the Somali terrorist organization. (July 2014)

- An immigrant from Bangladesh, who applied for and received U.S. citizenship, tried to incite people to travel to Somalia and conduct violent jihad against the United States. (June 2014)

- A Moroccan national who came tot he U.S. on a student Visa was arrested for plotting to blow up a university and federal court house. (April 2014)

- The Boston bombers were invited in as refugees. The younger brother applied for citizenship and was naturalized on September 11th, 2012. The older brother had a pending application for citizenship. (April 2013)

- Two immigrants form Pakistan, who later applied for and received U.S. citizenship, were sentenced to decades-long prison sentences for plotting to detonate a bomb in New York City. (2012)

Your own "proof" ... "The United States will have "absolutely no choice" but to close down some mosques where "some bad things are happening,"

You took "some" ... "where bad things are happening" ... Changed it to all Mosques.

Even other Jones sees how foolish you all sound ...
Here’s the thing: to the average person, it seems perfectly reasonable to be suspicious of admitting Syrian refugees to the country. We know that ISIS would like to attack the US. We know that ISIS probably has the wherewithal to infiltrate a few of its people into the flood of refugees. And most voters have no idea how easy it is to get past US screening. They probably figure it’s pretty easy.

So to them it doesn’t seem xenophobic or crazy to call for an end to accepting Syrian refugees. It seems like simple common sense. After all, things changed after Paris.

Mocking Republicans over this—as liberals spent much of yesterday doing on my Twitter stream—seems absurdly out of touch to a lot of people.

[…]

Mocking it is the worst thing we could do. It validates all the worst stereotypes about liberals that we put political correctness ahead of national security. It doesn’t matter if that’s right or wrong. Ordinary people see the refugees as a common sense thing to be concerned about. We shouldn’t respond by essentially calling them idiots. That way lies electoral disaster.

Under the revised plan, Canada will identify the 25,000 refugees it plans to resettle by Dec. 31, with 10,000 of those now slated to arrive in Canada by the end of the year. The rest will arrive by the end of February 2016.

Trudeau told CBC that pushing back the deadline will ensure the resettlement process is done right and will create a better chance for their successful integration into Canada.

"We want these families arriving to be welcomed, not feared, because that's the way to get the right start in terms of having them become valuable parts of our community and create success."
Single, unaccompanied men need not apply. Makes sense.

Now we'll need to tighten the border between us and Canada.
If somebody is set on doing it, there are plenty of opportunities to cross this border
Newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is standing by his pledge to allow 25,000 Syrian refugees into Canada by Jan. 1. Current and former Canadian security sources told Reuters last week that corners would have to be cut on security screening due to the accelerated process.

Makes more sense than the alternative. Letting none in makes even more sense right now.

If we want to feel good, let's round up 10k homeless veterans and set them up for life. Homes, jobs, cars, private doctors, the works. That we can feel good and take care of our own. No one to screen. You served, you need help, you're in.

ok. Say you are The King and impose a 100% effective ban on allowing any Syrian man, woman, or child into the country.

For how long? And when do you let up? Are you talking about suspending current immigration law? Suspending federal rules?

Is perfect safety from all external threats possible 100% of the time?

Or there is this point:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/25/us/ta ... .html?_r=0

Going by ACTUAL terror incidents, perhaps we should be more worried about White Christians, than Muslims?
NY Times 6/25/2015 wrote:Homegrown Extremists Tied to Deadlier Toll Than Jihadists in U.S. Since 9/11

WASHINGTON — In the 14 years since Al Qaeda carried out attacks on New York and the Pentagon, extremists have regularly executed smaller lethal assaults in the United States, explaining their motives in online manifestoes or social media rants.

But the breakdown of extremist ideologies behind those attacks may come as a surprise. Since Sept. 11, 2001, nearly twice as many people have been killed by white supremacists, antigovernment fanatics and other non-Muslim extremists than by radical Muslims: 48 have been killed by extremists who are not Muslim, including the recent mass killing in Charleston, S.C., compared with 26 by self-proclaimed jihadists, according to a count by New America, a Washington research center.
So, it makes SO much sense that Trump (and a few other fellow lunkheads) wants to register the Muslims in this country (never mind that fact that it's completely unconstitutional), and allow in only Christian refugees...

Fair question for another time. Not now. ISIS has declared war on us. They have declared their intention to use the refugee populations to hide soldiers. They have successfully pulled this off in Paris. We need to close up our borders until it is safe to open them. This is basic security. Why can you not see it?

Yours are foolish.

Comparing 300+ million American's with outliers. If there were 300 million Syrian immigrants, that article's numbers wouldn't be the same.

So how many American immigrants to Syria are committing terrorist acts? That's the kind of foolish stat your article left out.

The fact remains, that the most egregious acts of terrorism have NOT come from our mosques.

Trump wants to register all Muslims (despite the fact that that would NEVER past muster with the courts - it's clearly unconstitutional)...

And despite the fact that the vast majority of our terrorist incidents in this country since 9/11 have come from white Christians, not Muslims.

As for the immigrants:

http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions ... ng-process
gardneweb.com wrote:Anti-refugee GOP Guv. can’t name one problem with vetting process

Why do you want to keep Syrian refugees out of our country, Governor?

Dunno. I just do.

==============================

"A conservative governor who helped initiate hysteria over Syrian refugees after last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris failed to explain his belief that the U.S. government should put its refugee program on “pause.”

When interviewed by National Public Radio, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder (R) couldn’t name any problems with the vetting process for asylum seekers, only saying his constituents had raised the issue when pressed by NPR’s Morning Edition host, Steve Inskeep.

. . . . . . . . .

When asked by Inskeep what in particular concerns him about the often two-year vetting process that involves multiple government agencies, Snyder couldn’t come up with anything.

Inskeep then pointed out that some people come to the United States much more easily than refugees, including those on tourist visas and from some Western European countries for whom a visa isn’t even required to enter the U.S.

But Snyder didn’t have any issues with that. It’s refugees he wants to talk about.
Stupid gov. is against immigrants, but has no idea why. It's just the thought that counts, I guess.

I am sure most of you GOP lot is fine with this sort of behavior:

Mark,

Given that you believe that daesh has declared war, (not a state, so they can't, but whatever) why are you not advocating for American troops to go to Syria and Iraq and obliterate them? Why not go after the Saudi money behind so much of this?

You persist in thinking that 100% border security is possible? That border control contains daesh?

Obama had chances to act; he didn't. We need a clearly articulated policy. Knee jerk, fear driven "improvements" to an existing resettlement policy is just posturing. This isn't Europe.

And Happy Thanksgiving-

At this point, what he "originally" meant is immaterial.

He has been asked point-blank, multiple times, if he wants such a registry. He has not once flat-out said no (something most of the other GOP candidates leaped at the chance to do, and pile on Trump).

He could clear this up in 5 minutes. He has CHOSEN not to do so.

politifact.com wrote:The next day, an MSNBC reporter asked Trump, "Should there be a database or system that tracks Muslims in this country?"

"There should be a lot of systems," Trump responded. "Beyond databases. I mean, we should have a lot of systems."
Again - he was asked a clear and direct question.

He CHOSE not to give a clear and direct answer. He COULD have just rejected the idea, like MANY other GOP candidates did.
After Trump’s tweet, Fox News asked him about his position on a Muslim registry.

"Let's hear it directly from you," said host Kimberly Guilfoyle. "Would President Donald Trump support a full Muslim database?"

"Basically the suggestion was made and (it’s) certainly something we should start thinking about,"
He did NOT reject the idea...something MANY other GOP candidates did.

He said (DIRECT QUOTE) "It's certainly something we should start thinking about".

Combine that with his CLEAR AND OBVIOUS lies about seeing 9/11 jumpers from the window of his condo (which is 4 MILES FROM THE WTC)...

And his clear and obvious lies about the mobs of folks cheering the 9/11 attacks in NJ (both Christie, and NJ state AG at the time, both basically called him a liar...and no media outlet has any record of such an event)...

And now he's caught mocking the disability of a reporter who's been covering him for years...
Boggles the mind that he can be caught in lie after lie, outrageous behavior after outrageous behavior, and nobody seems to care.

I sincerely hope he does get the nomination - it's a gift for the Dems like they've never had! =))
But I still think it'll be Rubio.

3 lies and some biased truth? ...

1st sentence ... lie.

His condo is 4.1 miles away and has been verified to face the towers. Here is a view at ground level from 3.4 miles ...

Now, lets assume that like just about anyone who lives in a high rise, he has binoculars? Those things that make things look closer?

Image
He certainly could see the 2nd plane hit with the naked eye. Doubtful a multi billionaire wouldn't own binoculars or perhaps a telescope? Is he telling truth? Only God knows ... but he certainly could be.

1st part of 2nd sentence ... lie.
"I do not remember that, and so it's not something that was part of my recollection. I think if it had happened, I would remember it, but, you know, there could be things I forget, too."

No, Christie (did not) basically call him a liar.

2nd part of 2nd sentence ... lie.
The Washington Post confirmed Donald Trump’s remarks about seeing Muslims in NJ celebrating 9/11

In an archived page dated Sept. 18, 2001, The Washington Post reported on Muslims in New Jersey celebrating the attacks on 9/11.
“Investigators said at least two of the hijackers, Nawaq Al Hamzi and Salem Al Hamzi are believed to have had addresses in Wayne and Fort Lee, NJ. The apparently rented a mailbox in Fort Lee at Mailboxes Etc. in Jersey City within hours of two jetliners plowing into the World Trade Center. Law enforcement authorities detained and questioned a number of people who were allegedly seen celebrating the attacks and holding tailgate-style parties on rooftops while they watched the devastation on the other side of the river.”
The last part, he was pointing out how the press seems desperate to cover any trace of Muslims celebrating in US. It is true he either intentionally or stupidly made it seem he was mocking his disability.

So we have traveled all the way from ... It's not the crime, it's the cover-up. To ... It's not the unpleasant truth we tell that you falsely claim is wrong, it's the insensitive impression that you do of a reporter who is covering up the truth.

Update on Bridges only possibly truthful item ...
In a statement Thursday, Trump adamantly denied that his comments or gestures were meant to mock Kovaleski. He also denied remembering Kovaleski at all — “despite having one of the all-time great memories.”

“Kovaleski must think a lot of himself if he thinks I remember him from decades ago — if I ever met him at all, which I doubt I did,” Trump said. “He should stop using his disability to grandstand and get back to reporting for a paper that is rapidly going down the tubes.”…

God save us from a Trump administration. He's out of control. How could anyone vote for this guy?
Sure you have the right name here, podna??

Need QC on this one received:
DONALD TRUMP: WHAT THEY ALL FEAR MOST!

What a message? Read this and shiver. DONALD TRUMP: WHAT THEY ALL FEAR MOST!

This will take about ten minutes or less to read, but please invest the time to do so. It's important!

They will kill him before they let him be president. It could be a Republican or a Democrat that instigates the shutting up of Trump. Don't be surprised if Trump has an accident. Some people are getting very nervous: Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, Eric Holder, Hillary Clinton and Jon Corzine, to name just a few.

It's about the unholy dynamics between big government, big business, and big media. They all benefit by the billions of dollars from this partnership, and it’s in all of their interests to protect one another. It’s one for all and all for one.

It’s a heck of a filthy relationship that makes everyone filthy rich — everyone except the American people. We get ripped off. We’re the patsies. But for once, the powerful socialist cabal and the corrupt crony capitalists are scared. The over-the-top reaction to Trump by politicians of both parties, the media, and the biggest corporations of America has been so swift and insanely angry that it suggests they are all threatened and frightened like never before.

Donald Trump can self-fund. No matter how much they say to the contrary, the media, business, and political elite understand that Trump is no joke. He could actually win and upset their nice cozy apple cart.

It’s no coincidence that everyone has gotten together to destroy The Donald. It’s because most of the other politicians are part of the “old boys club”. They talk big, but they won’t change a thing. They are all beholden to big-money donors. They are all owned by lobbyists, unions, lawyers, gigantic environmental organizations, and multinational corporations - like Big Pharma or Big Oil.

Or they are owned lock, stock and barrel by foreigners, like George Soros owns Obama or foreign governments own Hillary with their Clinton Foundation donations.

These run-of-the-mill establishment politicians are all puppets owned by big money. But there’s one man who isn’t beholden to anyone. There’s one man who doesn’t need foreigners, or foreign governments, or George Soros, or the United Auto Workers, or the teachers’ union, or the Service Employees International Union, or the Bar Association to fund his campaign.

Billionaire tycoon and maverick Donald Trump doesn’t need anyone’s help. That means he doesn’t care what the media says. He doesn’t care what the corporate elites think. That makes him very dangerous to the entrenched interests. That makes Trump a huge threat to those people. Trump can ruin everything for the bribed politicians and their spoiled slave masters.

Don’t you ever wonder why the GOP has never tried to impeach Obama? Don’t you wonder why John Boehner and Mitch McConnell talk a big game, but never actually try to stop Obama? Don’t you wonder why Congress holds the purse strings, yet has never tried to defund Obamacare or Obama’s clearly illegal executive action on amnesty for illegal aliens? Bizarre, right? It defies logic, right? First, I’d guess many key Republicans are being bribed. Secondly, I believe many key Republicans are being blackmailed. Whether they are having affairs, or secretly gay, or stealing taxpayer money, the National Security Agency knows everything.

Ask former House Speaker Dennis Hastert about that. The government even knew he was withdrawing large sums of his own money from his own bank account. The NSA, the SEC, the IRS, and all the other three-letter government agencies are watching every Republican political leader. They surveil everything. Thirdly, many Republicans are petrified of being called “racists” so they are scared to ever criticize Obama or call out his crimes, let alone demand his impeachment. Fourth, why rock the boat? After defeat or retirement, if you’re a “good boy,” you’ve got a $5 million-per-year lobbying job waiting. The big-money interests have the system gamed. Win or lose, they win.

But Trump doesn’t play by any of these rules. Trump breaks up this nice, cozy relationship between big government, big media, and big business. All the rules are out the window if Trump wins the Presidency. The other politicians will protect Obama and his aides — but not Trump. Remember: Trump is the guy who publicly questioned Obama’s birth certificate. He questioned Obama’s college records and how a mediocre student got into an Ivy League university. Now, he’s doing something no Republican has the chutzpah to do. He’s questioning our relationship with Mexico; he’s questioning why the border is wide open; he’s questioning why no wall has been built across the border; he’s questioning if allowing millions of illegal aliens into America is in our best interests; he’s questioning why so many illegal aliens commit violent crimes, yet are not deported; and he’s questioning why our trade deals with Mexico, Russia and China are so bad.

Trump has the audacity to ask out loud why American workers always get the short end of the stick. Good question! I’m certain Trump will question what happened to the almost billion dollars given in a rigged no-bid contract to college friends of Michelle Obama at foreign companies to build the defective Obamacare website. By the way, that tab is now up to $5 billion. Trump will ask if Obamacare’s architects can be charged with fraud for selling it by lying. Trump will investigate Obama’s widespread IRS conspiracy, not to mention Obama’s college records. Trump will prosecute Clinton and Obama for fraud committed to cover up Benghazi before the election. How about the fraud committed by employees of the Labor Department when they made up dramatic job numbers in the last jobs report before the 2012 election?

Obama, the multinational corporations, and the media need to stop Trump. They recognize this could get out of control. If left unchecked, telling the raw truth and asking questions everyone else is afraid to ask, Trump could wake a sleeping giant. Trump’s election would be a nightmare. Obama has committed many crimes. No one else but Trump would dare to prosecute. He will not hesitate. Once Trump gets in and gets a look at “the cooked books” and Obama’s records, the game is over. The gig is up. The goose is cooked. Holder could wind up in prison. Jarrett could wind up in prison. Obama bundler Corzine could wind up in prison for losing $1.5 billion of customer money. Clinton could wind up in jail for deleting 32,000 emails, or for accepting bribes from foreign governments while Secretary of State, or for “misplacing” $6 billion as the head of the State Department, or for lying about Benghazi. The entire upper level management of the IRS could wind up in prison.

Obamacare will be defunded and dismantled. And Obama himself could wind up ruined, his legacy in tatters.

Trump will investigate. Trump will prosecute. Trump will go after everyone involved. That’s why the dogs of hell have been unleashed on Donald Trump. Yes, it’s become open season on Donald Trump. The left and the right are determined to attack his policies, harm his businesses, and, if possible, even keep him out of the coming debates. But they can’t silence him. And they sure can’t intimidate him. The more they try, the more the public will realize that he’s the one telling the truth.

Why the Marine Hymn Contains the Verse "To the Shores of Tripoli'

Most Americans are unaware of the fact that over two hundred years ago the United States had declared war on Islam and Thomas Jefferson led the charge!

At the height of the eighteenth century, Muslim pirates were the terror of the Mediterranean and a large area of the North Atlantic.

They attacked every ship in sight, and held the crews for exorbitant ransoms. Those
taken hostage were subjected to barbaric treatment and wrote heart-breaking letters home, begging their government and family members to pay whatever their Mohammedan captors demanded.

These extortionists of the high seas represented the Islamic nations of Tripoli, Tunis, Morocco, and Algiers – collectively referred to as the Barbary Coast – and presented a dangerous and unprovoked threat to the new American Republic.

Before the Revolutionary War, U.S. merchant ships had been under the protection of Great Britain. When the U.S. declared its independence and entered into war, the ships of the United States were protected by France. However, once the war was won, America had to protect its own fleets.

Thus, the birth of the U.S. Navy. Beginning in 1784, seventeen years before he would become president, Thomas Jefferson became America’s Minister to France. That same year, the U.S. Congress sought to appease its Muslim adversaries by following in the footsteps of European nations who paid bribes to the Barbary States rather than engaging them in war.

In July of 1785, Algerian pirates captured American ships, and the Dye of Algiers demanded an unheard-of ransom of $60,000. It was a plain and simple case of extortion, and Thomas Jefferson was vehemently opposed to any further payments. Instead, he proposed to Congress the formation of a coalition of allied nations who together could force the Islamic states into peace. A isinterested Congress decided to pay the ransom.

In 1786, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams met with Tripoli’s ambassador to Great Britain to ask by what right his nation attacked American ships and enslaved American citizens, and why Muslims held so much hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

The two future presidents reported that Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja had answered that Islam "was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Quran that all nations who would not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise."

Despite this stunning admission of premeditated violence on non-Muslim nations, as well as the objections of many notable American leaders, including George Washington, who warned that caving in was both wrong and would only further embolden the enemy, for the following fifteen years the American government paid the Muslims millions of dollars for the safe passage of American ships or the return of American hostages. The payments in ransom and tribute amounted to over twenty percent of the United States government annual revenues in 1800.

Jefferson was disgusted. Shortly after his being sworn in as the third President of the United States in 1801, the Pasha of Tripoli sent him a note demanding the immediate payment of $225,000 plus $25,000 a year for every year forthcoming. That changed everything. Jefferson let the Pasha know, in no uncertain terms, what he could do with his demand. The Pasha responded by
cutting down the flagpole at the American consulate and declared war on the United States. Tunis, Morocco, and Algiers immediately followed suit. Jefferson, until now, had been against America raising a naval force for anything beyond coastal defense, but, having watched his nation be cowed by Islamic thugery for long enough, decided that is was finally time to meet force with force.

He dispatched a squadron of frigates to the Mediterranean and taught the Muslim nations of the Barbary Coast a lesson he hoped they would never forget. Congress authorized Jefferson to empower U.S. ships to seize all vessels and goods of the Pasha of Tripoli and to “cause to be done all other acts of precaution or hostility as the state of war would justify”.

When Algiers and Tunis, who were both accustomed to American cowardice and acquiescence, saw the newly independent United States had both the will and the right to strike back, they quickly abandoned their allegiance to Tripoli. The war with Tripoli lasted for four more years, and raged up again in 1815. The bravery of the U.S. Marine Corps in these wars led to the line “to the shores of Tripoli” in the Marine Hymn, and they would forever be known as “leathernecks” for the leather collars of their uniforms, designed to prevent their heads from being cut off by the Muslim scimitars when boarding enemy ships.

Islam, and what its Barbary followers justified doing in the name of their prophet and their god, disturbed Jefferson quite deeply.

America had a tradition of religious tolerance, the fact that Jefferson, himself, had co-authored the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, but fundamentalist Islam was like no other religion the world had ever seen. A religion based on supremacism, whose holy book not only condoned but mandated violence against unbelievers, was unacceptable to him. His greatest fear was that someday this brand of Islam would return and pose an even greater threat to the United States.

This should bother every American. That Muslims have brought about women only classes and swimming times at taxpayer-funded universities and public pools; that
Christians, Jews, and Hindus have been banned from serving on juries where Muslim defendants are being judged; Piggy banks and Porky Pig tissue dispensers have been banned from workplaces because they offend Islamist sensibilities; ice cream has been discontinued at certain Burger King locations because the picture on the wrapper looks similar to the Arabic script for Allah; public schools are pulling pork from their menus; on and on and on and on.

It’s death by a thousand cuts, or inch-by-inch as some refer to it, and most Americans have no idea that this battle is being waged every day across America. By not fighting back, by allowing groups to obfuscate what is really happening, and not insisting that the Islamists adapt to our own culture, the United States is cutting its own throat with a politically correct knife, and helping to further the Islamists agenda. Sadly, it appears that today’s America's leaders would rather be politically correct than victorious!

Any doubts, just google "Thomas Jefferson vs. the Muslim World."

From Politifact:

http://tinyurl.com/nej8p3q
The role of Islam in the Barbary wars

Not only did the United States never officially "declare war" (as the email puts it) against any of the Barbary powers, but historians of the period also say that religion was not a significant factor in the Barbary wars.

To be sure, the Barbary powers were Muslim, and mentions of Islam and Christianity do pop up at times in the historical record. But historians say it was more like fighting the mafia than religious zealots, historians say.

As early as 1797, the United States made clear in a treaty with Tripoli that "as the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion, as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen (Muslims) and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan (Mohammedan or Muslim) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

The experts we contacted agreed that the email vastly overplays the available evidence.

"Very little of this had to do with Islam," said Adrian Tinniswood, author of Pirates of Barbary: Corsairs, Conquests and Captivity in the Seventeenth-Century Mediterranean. "It had much more to do with trading opportunities and economics."

"We didn't attack them out of matters of faith," said Lance Janda, a military historian at Cameron University. "The wars were all about freedom of the sea and protecting the U.S. flag."

Robert C. Davis, author of Christian Slaves, Muslim Masters: White Slavery in the Mediterranean, the Barbary Coast and Italy, went so far as to slam the email as "so riddled with errors, bad logic, and innuendo that I have to wonder why you feel called upon to critique it."

Our ruling

The chain email said that "over 200 years ago, the United States had declared war on Islam, and Thomas Jefferson led the charge!"

The Barbary powers were Muslim, and religion sometimes crops up in the historical record. But historians agree that the overriding motivation of American military action against the Barbary pirates was to secure a vital national interest, namely protecting the U.S. merchant fleet and its ability to conduct international trade. They see no evidence that Jefferson or his contemporaries were undertaking a religious holy war. So we rate the claim False.
